What’s on in 2011

Once you get here, rest assured that you will never feel bored. The city has a lot to offer in terms of recreation and entertainment options. Here are the most popular events going on this summer in Birmingham:

 

1. Do Dah Day

This is a free, annual music celebration held in Caldwell and Rhodes Parks, located on the city’s picturesque Southside. The event first started as a private party for a few hundred people but now it attracts over 40,000 annually. The great thing about it is that the organizers raise funds for the Greater Birmingham Humane Society and T.E.A.R.S (The Emergency Animal Rescue Service).

2. British Arts and Street Sounds (BASS) Music Festival

This is mostly a celebration of black art & music, the British Arts and the festival takes place at numerous venues across the city. You can enjoy anything from UK hip-hop dancing and sound system nights to fiery debates on race and cultural identity.

3. Latin American Festival

 

The festival annually floods the city’s Victoria Square with colors, spices and salsa rhythms of Latin America. Dive into a buzzing parade events, with many beautiful traditional costumes and lots of Latin spirit that’s just impossible to restrain.

4. Birmingham International Jazz Festival

Annually, numerous live shoes all over the city attract thousands of people who want to take part in the famous Birmingham International Jazz Festival. The event includes 200 jamsessions and late-night performances held in various laces, from department stores to parks and restaurants.

5. Rath Yatra Chariot Festival

Birmingham now has its own version of the Hindu Rath Yatra Festival, where chariots devoted to Lord Krishna’s compassionate incarnation make their way to Victoria Square for an impressive vegetarian feast and celebration.

6. The Village Art Festival

 

This is a beautiful art festival where juried artists will showcase and sell their art inside and outside the venue. You can come with the whole family as there are many activities included for the children, as well.
